The Italian Job – Paul triumphs in Italy with two huge live shows
The Italian dates of the ‘On The Run Tour’ came to a magnificent
close as Paul McCartney played the second of two Italian shows last
night in Milan.
Following the triumphant headline-grabbing performance in Bologna
on Saturday, Paul played an incredible concert in Milan too, leaving
fans (including Noel Gallagher in the audience) speechless, with a
show that lasted nearly three hours and was packed with all the hits.
The audience were especially delighted when Paul addressed fans in
Italian from the stage, earning him one of the biggest cheers of the night.
The two shows were Paul’s first concerts in Italy since his now
legendary performance outside the Coliseum in Rome in May 2003, which
attracted over 500,000 people. This weekend’s shows are now also set
to go down in history with the fans who were lucky enough to have a
ticket to either of the extraordinary performances. From the moment
Paul touched down in Italy on Friday night there were scenes of mania
wherever he went. Thousands of fans lined the streets of both Bologna
and Milan to welcome Paul. News channels and the papers were full of
Macca stories and facts and figures about the ‘On The Run Tour’.
Italy also got an exciting world first when Paul performed ‘The Word’
and ‘All You Need Is Love’ for the first time ever live.
The Italian press equally matched the enthusiasm of the audiences.
‘Paul McCartney, the King of Music gave us a memorable night.
It was a historical night for the town of Bolgna. Every detail of
the show was perfect, Paul had everything under control all
night’, reported La Repubblica.’ L'Unita exclaimed, ‘The
miraculous music of Sir Paul. He made us laugh, cry, smile and scream. His concert united
people of all ages and backgrounds. The magical mystery tour of
Paul McCartney is a journey that will never end, he is the conductor
of our dreams’. Corriere Della Sera said, ‘There was 50
years of rock n’ roll history onstage as Paul performed the world’s
most loved and famous songs’.
Following the amazing reception in Italy, Paul continues the ‘On
The Run’ tour this week with shows in Paris and Cologne before hitting
London’s O2 Arena on the 5th of December. From there Paul
will head back into Europe and Russia and will then bring both the
year and his tour to an unforgettable close with a show in his
hometown of Liverpool on the 20th December.
