Rolling Stone ****
‘Macca keeps adding new gems to his songbook, with nothing to prove except he’s the only genius who can do this... (And, oh yeah — in his spare time, he happens to still be the greatest live performer on Earth.)’
From The Archives: Live Aid, July 13th, 1985
27 years ago today Paul performed ‘Let It Be’ during the finale of Live Aid.
The concert took place at Wembley Stadium in London to raise money for the ongoing famine in Ethiopia.
During Paul’s performance he was joined onstage by the organiser of the concert Bob Geldof, as well as David Bowie, Alison Moyet and Pete Townshend who provided backing vocals after Paul experienced technical difficulties with his microphone.
Following on from Paul’s appearance all the day’s acts joined him on stage to finish the concert with a rousing rendition of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas Time?’
A second concert was held at the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on the same day.
