Sunday 8th August Marks McCartney's 10th Solo Canadian Concert

Paul McCartney will today perform his 10th solo concert in Canada as his all new ''Up and Coming Tour' hits Toronto. The 'Up and Coming Tour', which started in March 2010, has seen this up and coming artist break new box office records, perform in places he's never been before, win rave reviews, celebrate his 200th concert with his current band and play an intimate show at The White House in front of the US president when he was awarded the prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Today is another milestone for the tour as Canada gets Macca show number ten and there have been some amazing memorable moments along the way.

Since 1976 the musical icon has performed to hundreds of thousands of people across Canada, performing indoor arena shows as well as massive outdoor headline making events. In 2008 Paul drew an incredible audience of over quarter of a million people who came to see the legend and his band rock Quebec City to celebrate their 400th birthday bash. Dozens of jumbo screens were put up across the city as roads were shut due to the enormous turn out.

Speaking about Canada Paul said: "Canada is a great music loving country. I love it. When I was growing up in Liverpool so many people were emigrating to Canada. We would see a lot of friends and family leaving and we'd see them off from the docks. I've a lot of relatives and friends who have moved here over the years so it's always a brilliant place for us to visit.â

Paul first appeared live in Canada with The Beatles in 1964 as part of their first ever tour of the US and Canada. That year saw them perform three shows: in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. It wasn't until 12 years later that Paul would play his first post Beatles show in Canada on May 9th 1976 as part of the legendary 'Wings Over America' tour. Another decade later and Paul returned to Canada in 1989 on his 'World Tour'. At the time The Montreal Gazette reported, 'This performance belongs in a time capsule, a testament to the emotional impact of the music and why it's worth living for. The 90s 'New World Tour' brought Paul back to Canada once again and in the last ten years so have the 'Driving USA Tour', 'US Tour' and two special standalone outdoor events, the first in Quebec City in 2008 and then last year Macca-mania was kept alive with a special concert in Halifax, Nova Scotia, his first ever show in that region. The mayor of Halifax described the show as the largest and most exciting concert in their 260-year history.

To honour Canada's strong links with Scotland Paul has been known to perform his massive smash hit single 'Mull Of Kintyre' on previous trips. Several of the country's towns, rivers and mountains are named after Scottish explorers and traders who moved to Canada to make their fortune and the two countries are still proud of their close connection. Canada could be in for that treat again tonight when Paul and his band (Wix, Brian Rusty and Abe) take to the stage. Whatever happens it's bound to be another memorable night of joyous music and blissful entertainment.
