Hi everyone,

If you’re reading this then you will probably be aware there is a lot going on behind the scenes here at PaulMcCartney.com. We want to make Paul’s website a much more enjoyable place to visit and also make it easier for you to find out what he’s up to.

Now, much of what we’re working on you won’t see in full for a few months, so we decided to begin a blog to keep you up-to-date on the progress. You’re probably thinking, what exactly have we been up to?

For an artist like Paul, who has done and continues to do so much, there is a lot of work involved in collecting all the content together and displaying it in a fun and engaging way, and we want to make sure we do it right. After spending a lot of time thinking about how to approach this rebuild, the first decision we made was this:

Rather than spending lots of time and energy creating bespoke functionality for PaulMcCartney.com, such as the music and video players, we will be working with people like Soundcloud and YouTube. We love what they do and they do it better than we could ever hope to because that’s what they specialise in. Also, working with them allows us to concentrate on bringing you great content and creating exciting new features instead. We call this the 'Hub and Spoke' approach; PaulMcCartney.com is the hub, the third parties who we work with are the spokes.

How did we decide what features should be on the new site? That’s where you come in. We know what we think an artist’s website should include, but we’re not making this website for us, we’re making it for you. At the beginning of the year everyone was invited to join in with a PaulMcCartney.com survey, providing your opinion on the current website and content.

We kept the survey open for a couple of weeks and received over 12,000 responses, which was incredible! To get so many people willing to help out was very exciting as it shows just how much you care about PaulMcCartney.com. And that also makes us determined to make sure the new site is as good as it can be.

So, what did you tell us...

Question 1 asked: What are your favourite sections of PaulMcCartney.com? You told us:

Question 2 asked: Which parts of the PaulMcCartney.com website do you feel should be prioritised for improvement? You told us:

And question 3 asked: What additional features would you like to see on the PaulMcCartney.com website? You told us:

From these first three questions alone we were given a great deal of useful information about what we should be concentrating on, telling us, for example:

  • You wanted more personal content from Paul. We discussed this with him and came up with the new feature ‘You Gave Me The Answer’, the first of which was published in February.
  • You have also told us on the Maccaboard that you want the ability to communicate with other fans via a website social network and we’re currently doing tests on bringing this feature to the site.

These are just two of the many new things we are working on to help make PaulMcCartney.com a cooler website. We’ll be letting you know about much more in future blog updates. These updates will include infographics, more details from the surveys and news on what we’re working on. We also want to continue hearing from you so check your inbox this weekend for the next survey. And please let us know what you think of this blog and what you want it to include in the comments below and we’ll try and address as many of your questions as possible too.

All the best!
