You Gave Me The Answer - As a guitarist, how do you take care of your fingertips?

31.07.2025

Earlier this month, Paul announced that he is heading back out on the road, as his Got Back tour once again takes North America by storm! Starting in Palm Desert, California on 29th September and ending in Chicago, Illinois on 25th November, Paul and the band will play 20 shows across the US and Canada, continuing the epic run of Got Back shows that have delighted audiences since 2022.

So, with a busy autumn on the horizon, we wondered how Paul’s preparations are going. Previously, Paul has shared his pre-show and post-show rituals, but what about the physical preparations needed to play an epic three-hour set? The latest ‘You Gave Me the Answer’ Q&A comes from fellow guitar player, Sean…

Sean asks: After 60+ years of playing guitar, how do you take care of your fingertips?

Paul: To tell you the truth, I don’t! When I’m touring and playing guitar constantly, my fingertips develop callouses. Then when I have time off they go a bit softer, but will harden up again when recording. I suppose I’ve got used to it, but I don’t actually do anything to them to achieve that result!

It must come down to years of practise! You can find out more about the upcoming Got Back tour here.
